PENN conducted a full-day PoSH awareness and compliance training for the HR and operations teams at Samsung Electronics India's Chennai facility in January 2025 — one of the largest corporate PoSH programs we have run to date.

Background

Samsung Electronics India employs over 1,200 staff across its Chennai manufacturing and corporate offices. Despite having an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in place, the organisation identified a gap in frontline awareness — particularly among shop-floor supervisors and team leads who interact directly with contract and permanent staff. PENN was brought in to bridge that gap.

"We wanted our teams to understand PoSH not as a compliance checkbox, but as a culture shift. PENN delivered exactly that — practical, empathetic, and legally rigorous."

— Head of HR, Samsung Electronics India (Chennai)

What the Program Covered

The training was structured across two tracks delivered in parallel:

  • Track A — All Employees: PoSH Act fundamentals, types of harassment, safe reporting channels, and bystander responsibility
  • Track B — ICC Members & HR: Complaint intake procedures, enquiry timelines, documentation requirements, and avoiding common legal pitfalls
  • Anonymous Q&A sessions using a live polling tool — enabling candid questions without fear of identification
  • Scenario-based group discussions drawn from real (anonymised) industry cases
  • Certificate of completion issued to all 340 participants

A Highlight: The Bystander Module

One of the most impactful segments was PENN's proprietary Bystander Intervention Framework — a structured approach to equipping employees with the confidence and language to act when they witness harassment, rather than remain passive.

Participants role-played scenarios and practised four intervention styles: Direct, Distract, Delegate, and Document. Post-session surveys showed an 87% increase in participants' stated confidence to intervene safely.

PoSH Compliance: What Every Corporate Must Know

Under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, every organisation with 10 or more employees must:

  1. Constitute an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC)
  2. Conduct annual PoSH awareness training for all employees
  3. Submit an annual report to the District Officer
  4. Display the PoSH policy and ICC contact details prominently at the workplace

Non-compliance can attract fines up to ₹50,000 and cancellation of business licences on second offence. PENN helps organisations stay ahead of these requirements with structured, audit-ready programs.
